Foundations of Authentic Storytelling
At Artist Lab Prioritise we believe that true stories that have the potential to elevate marginalised voices but we recognise it's incredibly important to prioritise the integrity of the story. In order to guarantee that this is achieved we rely on the following guidelines
Collaborating with Communities and Subject
Whenever possible, involve the real individuals or communities in the filmmaking process. This includes consulting them for accuracy, seeking their input on how their stories are told, and ensuring their voices are represented authentically.
Creative Integrity
Maintain a balance between factual accuracy and narrative storytelling. While creative liberties may be necessary, always stay true to the spirit and core truth of the story. Factual accuracy is vital to guarantee creative integrity and therefore we ensure that every story we take on has been investigated throughly via consultations with primary sources whenever possible.
Diversity and Inclusion
Representation should be a cornerstone of the films we produce. Actively seek out and prioritise stories from diverse backgrounds—ethnicities, genders, cultures, and geographies. This is not only true for the stories that we adapt but can be seen on our team.
Transparency
It is critical that we are transparent with the subjects of the stories and approach their experiences with compassion and care. However, we also guarantee that this value is reflected in every aspect of the business. From calibrations with writers, other production houses, and even between ourselves in Artist Lab. Without transparency, we cannot provide the most authentic outcomes.
